SAY YOU WON’T LET GO
James Arthur

Sadly, In The Name Of Love isn’t a cover of the Thompson Twins classic – that would’ve been a massive improvement on what we’ve got here, which is a further helping of deeply unexciting stop-start midtempo pop. At this point in time, the chart is moving so slowly that I’ve had to wait three weeks for the first new entry of September – the singles chart hasn’t crawled along as glacially as this since the 1950s. Bit of a worry, that.

Side To Side is also midtempo and is again not terrible and not great, and quite frankly even Nicki Minaj sounds a bit bored to me. Between you and me, I wouldn’t blame her if she was. Thank God for Sia – the title of The Greatest oversells the song a little, but it’s far and away the best single I’ve heard in some time. It’s got its own sound and what’s more, it’s a bit nippy with it. More like this, please.

Let’s be honest, My Way isn’t going to be remembered by too many people in years to come (and that probably includes Calvin Harris), but right now this and The Greatest do at least have a bit of get up and go about them. Now then, James Arthur. The tune and the production are incredibly samey, but the lyrics make up for that and in some style too. You know me, I like songs that have lyrics grounded in the real world and this one definitely delivers on that score. Well done, James Arthur.
