There’s a fine line between a dance track sounding mellow and sounding unfinished and Lean On spends its entire running time happily jumping over that line. At least it doesn’t sound like Yet Another Bloody Nineties Throwback – yes, Stronger, I am looking at you here.

There’s a horrible wailing noise in Where Are Ü Now, and for once it isn’t Justin Bieber’s singing. He’s oddly tolerable in this one, as it transpires. No, the wailing noise comes from what sounds for all the world like somebody lost their violin and decided that an electric guitar could be played in exactly the same way. Lesson learned here, folks – it can’t. Meanwhile, All Cried Out is pretty decent – Italo House piano riffs and all.

What there is of Runaway is all right, but it really does sound like there’s a fair bit missing, like they finished recording it, accidentally deleted the finished song and with the deadline looming had to hand over a backed up file from a day or two previously. I do like Bills though, it’s a proper little ray of sunshine.

Hey Mama has a huge cast list, so why on earth does the song meander through its running time without ever springing into life? Oh, it’s all wrong. As for Bad Blood, the song’s so-so and the video looks like a world record attempt at fitting as many famous people into a four-minute video as possible. Ho hum. What’s next?
