Boom Clap… probably shouldn’t like it, but I do, so there. Rude doesn’t work for me, but that’s purely because I’m not a fan of reggae; the song’s well done and I can see how it’s been so popular. So, yeah, I don’t like it, but it’s not rubbish. Cheryl Cole’s next, or is she still just called Cheryl? I don’t know, but there’s a lot to like about Crazy Stupid Love.

Kisses For Breakfast is nice enough, but very forgettable. The Bars half of Bars and Melody was born in 2000. I had a mortgage two years before he was born. Dear God, I feel so ancient. Even worse, Hopeful is actually not bad. Well, I don’t know about you but now I feel as though I’ve wasted my life. Thanks a bundle, Bars and Melody. I like Faded too, as it happens. I bet Zhu is/are really, really old like me. I hope so, I don’t feel ready for retirement just yet.

My goodness, Love Runs Out is majestic! More songs should have a massive pounding beat to drive them along. Am I Wrong pales in comparison, but to be honest Love Runs Out is that good that every other single that’s reached the Top Ten this year would’ve had its work cut out in matching up to it.

Dunno about Giant In My Heart… it’s not bad, but it really sounds like a “oh heck, now I’ve got to follow up a smash hit” type follow-up single.

The opening “oooh”s in Union J’s anthemic, uplifting, formulaic drivel festival sound a lot like they’re going to segue into The Lion Sleeps Tonight, and do you know what, I’d be happier if it had done just that. Whoever’s job it is to make sure Union J are the biggest band in the world is either making a pretty poor fist of things or hasn’t been given much to work with in the first place; the single plummeted from 9 to 74 in the space of seven days. Ed Sheeran’s next, again, and Don’t isn’t bad either. When I was going through the original list of Top Ten singles, this was the 6,000th song and therefore seemed like a good place to stop. But now, I am continuing. I am an idiot. Luckily for me, My Head Is A Jungle’s good, so that makes continuing worthwhile all on its own, wouldn’t you say? OK, maybe not, but Shake It Off is probably the best thing Taylor Swift’s done to date… actually, scratch that, it is the best thing she’s done. The song’s good and she’s clearly having a great time in the video, so there’s nothing here for me to complain about. August comes to a close with… oh God, has Ray Liotta really been reduced to appearing in David Guetta music videos? For the first eighty seconds or so, Lovers On The Sun’s actually not bad, but once David Guetta remembers that he’s David Guetta and that his songs have to have that inimitable David Guetta sound things go ever so slightly downhill in a “Wile E. Coyote realising he’s just run over the edge of a cliff” sort of way.
