My goodness, I Need Air’s still as good as it was in 2010. That’s not all; One (Your Name) still sounds like somebody took a Stylophone into the recording studio for a laugh and somehow contrived to come up with a club anthem. Oh for… David Guetta again? He must be the Gatekeeper to Pitbull’s Keymaster this year. I dread to think what would happen if those two ever got together. “The world better prepare for when I’m a billionaire,” trills Bruno Mars during the marvellously uninteresting Billionaire – I fear he’s set his sights so impossibly high that the world won’t need to worry too much about preparation. All Time Low? Oh no, The Wanted, I’m sure you’re capable of much worse than this.
I like Beautiful Monster. It sounds like someone’s bunged a keyboard into a saucepan and let it gradually come to the boil during the verses, which probably made it incredibly difficult, not to mention highly unsafe, to play.
In My System would probably be better if it didn’t sound like someone had taken advantage of Take Your Kids To Work Day and put a four-year-old in charge of playing with the buttons on the drum machine, but it’s not bad as it is. Missing You, on the other hand, sounds like the Saturdays on autopilot.
The nineties throwbacks have got another chart-topper! I know, I’m surprised too. Good for them.
