It all goes wrong for Mel G.

Blur

How many times have I reviewed this? How many times have they delayed this? Well, it's out at last, so you've got no excuse. Watch out for the video too, it features a milk carton wandering the streets looking for Graham. It'll never get to Number One, but it's far too good for that anyway.

WILD WILD WEST

Will Smith

So the film that this is from is set in the late nineteenth century, right? They didn't have rap then, did they? No? Good, so we're agreed on that then. So why the hell is Will Smith's contribution to the soundtrack yet more of the same rap / R&B rubbish that we've come to expect from him over the years? Come on Will, be original for once. Mind you, Gettin' Jiggy Wit It remains, for me, the most unintentionally hilarious rap single ever. I suppose it's worth him continuing just to see if he can reproduce that sort of form.

WORD UP

Melanie G

No stupid whiny voice, no absurd codpiece, just loads and loads of bog-standard R&B topped off with the artist formerly known as Mel B merely going through the motions. This, it has to be said, is one hell of a disappointment. I used to think Cameo were a bunch of prats back in the eighties what with all their prancing about in ill-advised clothing and I was extremely pleased when they went down the dumper soon after their Word Up dipped out of the charts. After hearing this rather tired-sounding effort though, I hope they come back if only to scare off anyone who'd dare cover their songs this badly.
