NICE WEATHER FOR DUCKS

Lemon Jelly

This is demented. In fact, it’s completely barking. It starts off with Enn Reitel (I think he’s a voiceover man by trade, the name looks familiar) singing “All the ducks are swimming in the water” as if somebody’s threatened to burn his house down with him in it if he doesn’t make it sound as jolly as he possibly can. Then it turns into something that resembles a seventies kids’ TV show theme tune, albeit one that’s not quite playing with a full deck. Add to that a brass section that still believes the swinging sixties haven’t stopped and you have a crazed fool of a song. As to whether it’s any good, well, it’s not my sort of thing, but at least it’s different. Personally, I can’t wait to see Lemon Jelly play this on Top Of The Pops being stared at by a studio audience wondering just what the hell is going on.

200KM/H IN THE WRONG LANE

T.A.T.U. (album)

First of all, the downsides. There may be 14 tracks, but only eight of them are different, giving this a mini-album feel. There are two Russian versions of All The Things She Said and Not Gonna Get Us (come on, sing along), three very unexciting remixes and a video to add to the album proper. Now, the plus points. They’re not one trick ponies – Not Gonna Get Us ought to be a single because it’s manic, it’s fun and it’s sung at such a high pitch that you can attract every dog in the street by playing it. And as for How Soon Is Now? – yes, the Smiths song – how they get away with it God only knows, but they do. However, three good songs doesn’t make an album and there are five fillers here too. All in all, this could’ve been better, but it could also have been so much worse.
