HERE IT COMES AGAIN

Melanie C

I’ll be honest with you, I didn’t know what to expect here. It could be class (like Goin’ Down and Ga Ga) or it could be cobblers (a big hello to I Turn To You), however, luckily this errs on the side of good. It’s more rock than pop, it sounds more grown up than anything on Northern Star did and it ends rather suddenly. That aside, two things about it made me wonder. One was “Is it being played at the wrong speed?” as it sounds as though it ought to be played faster and the other was “Why is it, when the chorus plays, I’m reminded of A-ha’s Manhattan Skyline?” I can put that one down to the guitar that comes in for that bit, but it does sound a little slow and there’s not a lot I can do about that. When all’s said and done, this is one of her better efforts, so the new album might be something to look forward to. I shan’t put money on it just yet though…

DON'T BOMB WHEN YOU ARE THE BOMB

Blur

This is one of those scarce white label releases that’s been sneaked out with no publicity. Damned strange it is too, the only lyrics consist of the title repeated over and over and the music doesn’t really sound like Blur (mind you, after 13 what does?) as it’s about as dancey as they’ve ever got. It’s almost as if they’ve heard Radiohead’s last two albums and thought “Let’s see if we can do that”, that’s how different this sounds. It takes a few listens, but it’s a real grower if you can get to hear it. Unfortunately, that’s where it all falls down as hardly any copies have been made. Damn.
