The tide must've been out.

MISS LUCIFER

Primal Scream

If a band had been away for the best part of two years, you'd expect them to come back with something pretty damned amazing, wouldn't you? Alright then, let's just settle for "good". Problem is, good though this is, it isn't as earth-shattering as perhaps it should be (earth-denting would probably be more accurate). Everything's in place for a good result - it's manic stuff (the guitars are pushed into the background a la Swastika Eyes), it's certainly different to some of the anonymous tat that's infested the Top 40 and, at a shade under two and a half minutes, it's never going to outstay its welcome. So why doesn't this get top marks then? Well, when they did this for Swastika Eyes it sounded new and exciting. Unfortunately, that was a couple of years ago and as a result this song merely covers old ground. Don't get me wrong, this is still very listenable, but somehow I expected... well... better.

THE TIDE IS HIGH (GET THE FEELING)

Atomic Kitten

Evidently the tide wasn't high enough to sweep this horror out to sea, more's the pity. Think of the Blondie song, then imagine that mixed with a typical Atomic Kitten radio-friendly pop song and there you go. Utterly wretched.

I'M A DJ

Sonicanimation

An interesting one, this. I don't think this one's been released over here yet and, to be perfectly honest, I'm not even certain it's going to be released but it damned well should be. Oh yes, it's very dancey and really good fun to listen to in its own right but the lyrics are class. Basically Sonicanimation are slagging off superstar DJs over a tune that's likely to be played by superstar DJs. My favourite line can't be printed here - pity really, but I recommend this one very highly.
