NEVER DONE NOTHING LIKE THAT BEFORE

Supergrass

Right then, let's see how long it takes before you lose interest in this one. It's only available on seven inch. Still with me? OK, try this. The B-side has nothing on it save a plain white label. Still interested? Well, this next one's the killer. It's limited to 1,500 copies. That should just about clinch it. If you're still reading by now, chances are you're a Supergrass fan. As singles go, this is as short and sweet as they come. It clocks in at a little under two minutes, of which the first twenty seconds or so is taken up by the band letting off fireworks. Now that's the way to start a single! After that it's a minute and a half of complete mayhem, a bit like a speeded up version of Richard III. If you thought the Hives had managed to play their guitars as fast as is humanly possible, that's just peanuts compared to Supergrass. Put it this way, this song could have been played at half speed and would still have sounded OK. After all that though, the big question is this - is it any good? Yep, and then some. It's not going to make the chart, but it's great fun to listen to and at the end of the day, that's what music should be about.

HEATHEN CHEMISTRY

Oasis (album)

Oh dear. It's all gone wrong. Oasis have changed, but unfortunately it's not for the better. Normally I'd be glad they're trying something different, but this is worrying. In places they still sound up for it, but for the most part they sound (the reviewer whispers here) middle-aged. When Oasis' music reminds you of Hootie and the Blowfish, something is seriously wrong.
