Dolly Parton in the mix.
CLXXXV - 31 March 2002
2 MANY DJ’S
Various Artists (their spelling, not mine)

There’s only so many Ministry Of Sound / Cream / Gatecrasher mix albums I can take before they all sound the same (usually half of one does it for me). This is not one of those albums. An example follows. During the course of the album, the DJs have mixed Destiny’s Child’s Independent Women into Dolly Parton’s 9 To 5. Stop laughing, they have. And it works too. Elsewhere, there’s the Stooges mixed with Salt ‘n’ Pepa and Basement Jaxx’s Where’s Your Head At like you’ve never ever heard it before. There’s songs mixed into and on top of each other and, aside from a version of Joe Le Taxi that is frankly one of the scariest things you’ll hear this year, it’s fantastic.
WE ARE ALL MADE OF STARS
Moby

This bloke managed to get every single track off of his last album licenced out for things like adverts and the like - seeing as it held so many tracks that some CD players might not have had enough digits on the display to show the track numbers properly, that’s a pretty good trick. If I was him, I’d have taken a nice holiday by the sea whilst deciding what to do with the royalties (he can probably buy Spain with what he now terms small change). He’s back, though. The best way to describe this is Joy Division meets Air. Sorry if I put you off it there, it’s not as bad as that sounds. In fact, it’s quite good but the electric guitar in the chorus… bad move, Moby. Mind you, he can do no wrong right now, which is a nice position to be in so he might just get away with it anyway.
