LOVE IS IN THE AIR

Milk & Sugar vs John Paul Young

Ever get the feeling that record companies run out of ideas after Christmas? All their efforts go into an all-guns blazing attempt at getting the Christmas Number One and then when they fail, purely on the grounds that Robbie Williams isn’t on their label, they’ve got absolutely naff all left to release once the New Year arrives. I suppose this is one way round that problem, namely to grab an ancient song, remix it, chuck it out and hope for the best. Let’s be honest though, some songs don’t need to be remixed and some just need a slight tweak in order to keep them relevant. Love Is In The Air is one of those songs that, now and again, just needs a lick of paint to keep it looking tip-top rather than a complete Changing Rooms-style makeover that leaves it with pink and green striped wallpaper and no friends. Luckily, that’s just what it’s got. Nothing drastic, just a patch-up and the end result is surprisingly not that bad at all. It’s certainly better than anything Steps ever released so that can’t be a bad thing.
